Robyn is a 6th grader on the Blue Angels team that wants to be a pro wrestler. She is 11 years old.  Her favorite thing to do is watch music videos. She also likes to watch Full House reruns. She loves to watch pro wrestling. One day, she hopes to a pro wrestler. Also, if she had a million dollars, she would keep half of it.
Robyn is also a good student. She is making straight As. Her favorite class is social studies. This is because
it is the easiest for her. She has even made, not a 100, but a 102. Her favorite thing about school is to meet new people.

Thomas By Robyn

image.jpg
Thomas is a cheerleader at Red Bank Middle that doesn't plan to stop cheering any time soon because he said that if you are male cheerleader in college you get paid money. He said he got into cheering because "I was in gymnastics and there was an opening on the team and it looked fun". There is one other thing he would do with his life if he can't be a cheerleader and that is to be a lawyer.

Thomas is an 11 year old  sixth grader at Red Bank Middle School on the Blue Angels. He gave himself the nickname Tiniqua from a sign at a Mexican hotel because he liked it. Now almost everyone calls him Tiniqua. His best friend is me. He said that I'm his best friend because I'm funny and awesome.

Benefits of Being An Athlete By Kimbra

untitled.png
Are you an athlete? Do you play more than just one sport? Being an athlete is different from everyone else. When you play sports, you are more balanced, since you are not just doing schoolwork and chores at home. Playing and practicing sports  is much more than the sole act of pushing your body through exhaustion or using your skills to reach your goal. There are many effects that show after you get involved in a sport, such as physical, human, and social effects. Yes, sports will affect you very deeply. Practicing a sport requires some time, so you will be entertained for a while everyday instead of watching television or surfing on the internet. By practicing a sport you’ll get the chance to travel to new places where meets are held. And that’s not all, because once you enter a higher level of competition, you may compete in national or international meets, attract sponsors, and even make a profit out of it!

The Most important effect that practicing a sport causes on your person is your social side. You will meet a lot of people when you are involved in sports, from beginners to professionals. The effects of being an athlete shape your body, your life, and your mind in good ways. Practicing a sport keeps you entertained and far away from boredom. In addition you will have the chance to experience the amazing feeling of beating all your opponents down from the quarterfinals or crossing the finish line ahead of everyone else.

She started teaching back in 2005, which was about 10 years ago. She likes teaching her students because she likes to get to know her students just a little bit better. She used to live in Georgia that is near the border of Florida. She came to Red Bank Middle School because she wanted to start over and try something new.

While in grade school, her favorite subject was English. However, in college, her favorite class was anatomy and physiology. After graduating college, she taught at Ridgeland High School, which is in Walker County, Georgia. She has always taught the subject of science.

After a few years of teaching at Ridgeland High School, she moved to Red Bank Middle School. She said that she really likes Red Bank Middle School so far!

Officer Robards by Jeb

image.jpg
Protecting the school and its students; that's what the School Resource Officer (SRO) does everyday.  Our SRO’s name is Deputy Robards. He has been on the force for 6 years, but he has been an SRO since the beginning of this school year. Down below is the interview I conducted with Officer Robards.

Q&A with Officer Robards

Q.What made you want to be a police officer?
  1. I have wanted to become a police officer ever since I  was little. I have always wanted to help people. I’m also the type of person that likes every day to be a different day instead of going in to my job knowing exactly what’s going to happen.
Q.When did you start and what was your first police officer status?
  1. I started in a jail on March 2, 2009. I was a Correctional Officer (you have be certified to do this job).
Q.What was your first case about? Was it difficult?
  1. The first case I had was a simple case. There was property damage to a house because a neighbor was mowing the lawn and rocks were thrown around.
Q.Why did you become a SRO?
  1. Its harder to get adults out of a habit than children. I found out while doing patrol that its easier to make an impact on the younger group of people.
Q.What is your daily routine as a SRO?
  1. First, I walk the halls to make sure everyone gets to their classes. Then I’ll go to the C.D.C classes and get 2 students to put up the American flag. Then when Directed Studies comes around, I try to do 2 or more prestations in different classes.  Currently, the presentations are on lockdowns and lockouts, intruder alerts, and active shooters.
Q.What is your favorite/least favorite thing to do as a SRO?
  1. My favorite thing to do is socialize with students. My least favorite thing is getting up at 5:00 am.
Q.What is your plan for this school as a SRO?

  1. My plan is overall safety for the students and the school. I want to influence all the kids in a postive way. I want to let them know how to interact with law enforcement,  and that they should not be intimidated by the police. I want to help with daily success in school. I want to let them know that this is a safe atmosphere.

RBMS Girls' Basketball Win Against Signal Mountain By Kimbra

red bank basketball team 2014.jpgOn November 11, 2014, the Red Bank Middle School Varsity Girls Basketball Team had a wonderful night! The Lady Lionettes were playing against Signal Mountain Eagles at Red Bank. Their five starters were Jasmine Roberts, Lanija Bowens, Kimbra Dunning, Ja'Nya West, and Shelby Romans.

There were 6.1 seconds left in the 4th quarter, and the game was tied up at 25-25. The Lady Lionettes plan was to get the ball and score as soon as possible. It was the Lionettes ball, Jasmine has to pass the ball in. The ball was passed to Shelby . Shelby passed back to Jasmine. Jasmine took a risky chance and passed it to Kimbra. Kimbra shot it, and she scored right at the buzzer! 2 points were scored for Red Bank. Everyone in the crowd was cheering. It was now 27-25! The Lady Lionettes had defeated the Signal Mountain Eagles!

It was a very special night for the Lady Lionettes, especially for Kimbra. Now everyone knows that the Lady Lionettes can work through an extreme amount of pressure in a short amount of time. Congratulations to the Lionettes!!

The History of USATF By Kimbra

images.jpgUSA Track & Field (USATF) is an organization for track & field athletes that can benefit your life. You can start at a very young age (7) and end at a old age (100) too.

On January 30, 1878, rower and runner William B. Curtis founded what became the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) in New York City. The name was formally adopted in 1887. The AAU governed the sport of track & field until 1979, when the first Amateur Sports Act decreed that the AAU could no longer hold international franchises for more than one sport. In late 1979 with its first annual meeting, conjunction with that year's AAU Convention and a constitutional convention. The first stand-alone annual meeting occurred in Atlanta, Georgia, in late fall of 1980. In 1992, name was changed to USATF, to increase recognition for the organization and the sport in the United States.

I’m a member of USATF.  When you do the sport, track & field, they give you a membership to join them. This is effective because you get discounts on all the lastest Nike, Asics, Adidas, and all name brand gear. I believe that this organization gives you more experience in traveling than school events do, because you have 3 meets. One of them is State. The second is Regional. Lastly there are Nationals, which usually occurs near the end of July. These meets occur yearly, which shows your improvements each year.  I actually enjoy this organization. In fact, I love this organization. The people who work for USATF take care of you and keep you hydrated. They care for you as if you were an old person. Hopefully, more people will join this and enjoy it like I have.

Veronica Roth is an American novelist and short story writer known for her debut New York Times bestselling Divergent trilogy, consisting of Divergent, Insurgent, and Allegiant. She also wrote the companion novel, Four: A Divergent Collection. Divergent was the recipient of the Goodreads  Favorite Book of 2011 and the 2012 winner for Best Young Adult Fantasy & Science Fiction.
Veronica is 26 years of age. She was born in New York, but was raised in Illinois. Veronica graduated from Barrington High School. After attending a year of college at Carleton College, she transferred to Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, for its creative writing program.           Her inspiration for her famous story Divergent is really interesting. While she was writing, she had four things that inspired her. The first one was from college, where she learned about exposure therapy to help people overcome their phobias. The second one was from listening to a song while driving to Minnesota. The third was because she was inspired by the book, Harry Potter. Lastly, the fourth thing that she was inspired by was herself, and that’s how she created the character, Tris.

How Music Affects You By Robyn

image.jpg
Have you ever come home so angry that your face looked like a tomato because it was so red? If so, do I have some advice for you. Yes, sometimes you need to work it out in different ways, but did you know there is a much simpler way than kicking the cat?  Just listen to music. There are many different kinds of music that can increase happiness. The first kind of music that will increase happiness is upbeat or fast tempo. This includes songs such as “Hot and Cold” by Katie Perry, “Billy Jean” by Michael Jackson, and “Locked Out of Heaven” by Bruno Mars. Other kinds of music that promote the feelings of happiness are songs written in a major key rather than a minor key. A major key is proven to lift people out of sadness or negative moods. Songs like this include “Firework” by Katie Perry, “Forget You’” by Cee Lo Green, and “The Lazy Song” by Bruno Mars.
Another way music affects you is it can help you learn things and remember what you learned. Songs tap into systems in our brains that are sensitive to beat and melody. For example, everyone knows the ABC song which is the way we all learned our letters.
For more information on how music affects your brain check out these two links. The first link is more on how music affects your mood. The second one is about how music affects your ability to learn.

What is Ebola? By Kristin

Ebola is a virus  that can cause people to get very sick  and even die. Symptoms can start with a fever and a headache, like the flu.  It could get worse and cause life threatening symptoms, such as bleeding and trouble breathing. Bleeding in the skin causes a red rash that appears all over the body. Bleeding can occur internally as well as from the eyes, ears, and nose
(Gupta and Smith).
Ebola is spread through direct contact with the bodily fluids of sick people. Protocol calls for those who have been exposed to be isolated and monitored for symptoms for up to 21 days. 4,818 of people died of Ebola and there have been 13,042 cases reported since November 5, 2014.  (Associated Press)

Riverbend June 6-14, 2014! By Myia

Counting down less than 20 days until Riverbend 2014! It's one of the best parts of summer for almost everyone in the Chattanooga area. It would be really fun if everyone could come out and listen to all of the amazing singers that come all the way to Chattanooga to do something different for us every year. Riverbend is always a fun way to start your summer. There will be a couple of really good country singers this year like Justin Moore and many others. I think that this year just might be one of the wildest and most exciting Riverbends that we have had in a long time!
One of the best parts of having Riverbend every year is just being able to take part of your summer to hang out with so many of your friends and meet so many nice people. It's really cool because you are able to buy this pin. This pin is a token for you to go see every celebrity that shows up for us at Riverbend for a couple of nights. It's a great deal and the best way for me to describe it is this way: It's just plain FUN! So If you have nothing to do this summer, come on and get your Riverbend pin so you can enjoy yourself this summer.
