The Inside Scoop on Sarah By Jordan

Sarah is in the 7th grade. She is a 13 year old girl who can do anything. She will take on anything that comes her way.... except word search puzzles. I don't like word search  puzzles either. Sarah is on the Lion’s Pride Team. Her favorite subject is science because of the projects.
When I asked her what her favorite animal is she gave me 2 different ones. They are quokkas and axolotls. I have honestly never heard of those types of animals, but they sound pretty cool. If you want to know more about quokkas then go on this website provided http://mentalfloss.com/article/57159/6-things-know-about-super-cute-quokka. Lastly, If you could make your own famous quote what would it be? “Two days isn't enough time to know someone, but it is doesn't mean it isn't enough time to be friends.

Cristian, Pokemon Lover, By Isaiah

Cristian and the Pokemons, Ruby and Sapphire, are both 1 year apart in age. Cristian loves Pokemon like me. Cristian was introduced to Pokemon by his mom. His mom pulled out random episodes of the anime and he started watching it. He got really hooked and started watching the anime more and playing the games. The first time Cristian played Pokemon was around 2011. It was Pokemon Mystery Dungeon.

His favorite Pokemon is Mudkip. His first Pokemon was Mudkip in Mystery Dungeon. So Mudkip will be Cristian’s favorite Pokemon forever. One day Cristian went to the flea market with his dad. He found Pokemon cards and bought them. When he got home he realized they were fake. He basically got ripped off!

Alexandria, Darling, Daredevil and Dog Lover By: Trinity

Do you know Alexandria? She is the sweetest girl you will ever meet in your life. She considers herself a daredevil because she does things that are scary and cool at the same time. One time she built a ramp then did a flip off of it and landed on both wheels on her bike. Is that a daredevil thing or what? Alexandria goes by the name Alex. Alex also loves to swim. She can swim to the bottom of the pool. Alex can jump in the pool and start swimming.

Alexandria is the best friend you could ever have. I said that because she is funny, crazy, smart and caring. She also loves to read and her favorite book series is The Judy Moody Series by Megan McDonald. She has a dog named Heaven. Her dog is an adorable Chihuahua Pug mix called a Chug. She would love to be a judge in the future. To find out more information about Chugs, go to www.vetstreet.com/dogs/chug.

Greek Mythology By Robyn

image.jpg
Greek mythology is a very interesting topic of discussion especially if you are speaking of the many gods or goddesses. In sixth grade, we just took a test on the Greek gods and goddesses, and what I learned is not many of my friends know much about Greek mythology. Because of that, I decided to share with you my knowledge of the Greek gods and goddesses.

First, lets talk about the king of the gods, Zeus. Zeus along with his brothers, Poseidon and Hades, are considered the big three. In Greek mythology it says that when deciding who would rule over what, Zeus chose the sky, Poseidon chose the sea then they sent Hades to rule over the Underworld.  Back to Zeus, he is the god of the sky. Next, is another member of the big three, Poseidon. Poseidon is the god of the sea and earthquakes. Up next, we have the last member of the big three, Hades, the god of the Underworld. He's mad at his brothers for putting him down there to rule over the Underworld, so he pretty much completely hates his brothers. Ares is the god of war. Apollo is the god of the sun, poetry and twin brother of Artemis. Now onto the goddesses and where better to start than the queen of the goddesses, Hera. Hera is the goddess of women and marriage. Next is Athena, the goddess of wisdom and craft. Aphrodite is the goddess of love. Lastly, Artemis is the goddess of the hunt, of the moon, and twin sister of Apollo.

If you love Greek mythology, then I think that you would like the author Rick Riordan. Rick Riordan is a famous author who writes books based on mythology like Percy Jackson, The Kane Chronicles, and The Blood of Olympus. The library has some of Rick Riordan’s books including the whole Percy Jackson series, The Mark of Athena, The Red Pyramid, and The Son of Neptune. If you like mythology then go on down to the library and check out one of Rick Riordan's books, or if you really like them, go buy the books to keep at your house.

Do You Think You Are Safe With or Without the Measles Vaccine? By Kimbra

imagesQ05G86WW.jpgiii.jpg

Measles is one of the nastiest and most contagious of all childhood diseases.
Children under the age of 5 are most likely to catch it. Over the past 3 years, 146,000 children died from measles under the age of 5 worldwide. Most scientists say that the measles vaccine is safe, but as a parent, do you believe everything a doctor says? For example, some people that had the flu vaccination have still been able to catch the flu. What is the risk of catching the measles? A person with measles who coughs, sneezes or even just breathes can spray the virus into the air in small droplets, which can remain in the air for a few hours.

Our current outbreak in the United States is due to the fact that more and more people are going unvaccinated. The Anti-Vaccine movement can be traced to a 1998 report in a medical journal that suggested a link between vaccines and autism. Here's a question for you to consider: Do you think the government should require all parents to vaccinate their children?

The Awesome Rides at Lake Winnie By Robyn

image.jpg    If you live in Chattanooga or in Tennessee in general there is a very good chance you've gone to the amusement park, Lake Winnepesaukah. All the fun rides and the park food make it a day of fun for the whole family. Another thing about it is that the theme song gets stuck in your head, so you spend the whole summer going "happy, come on get happy." You get the point: Lake Winnie is awesome. A trip to Lake Winnie makes it an exciting summer in Tennessee. It just wouldn't be the same without it. Just in case you were wondering when Lake Winnie opens again, it will open on May 5, 2015.
Now here are some of the most popular rides at Lake Winnie. The first ride in Lake Winnie was the Boat Chute. The coolest part is even though it's been around for over 89 years, it still works perfectly fine, and it still remains one of their most famous rides today. The first roller coaster was the Cannon Ball, and it's been 49 years since it opened. Also, it still remains another of the most popular rides in Lake Winnie. The oldest ride in the park is the Philadelphia Toboggan Company Carousel number 39, which was made in 1916. It is still in Lake Winnie today right next to the antique cars. The OH-ZONE! is another ride at Lake Winnie. It goes up about 140 feet then it lets go and you free fall the entire 140 feet. It was added in 2006. Recently, they opened The Sokya Waterpark. This includes a lazy river with spray nozzles. There are four large  water slides and a child's play area with mini water slides.

image.jpgDo you want to find out more about the 7th grade Language Arts Lion’s Pride teacher? Well, here’s your opportunity!

Mr. Kizziah started teaching in 1996, and he taught English in Japan. The reason that he went to Japan was because they needed English teachers, and the more he taught, the more he came to like it. He stayed in Japan for 3 years and through those three years, he married his wife. He would've stayed in Japan if it wasn't for the fact that he had to find another job.

Mr. Kizziah is also a coach. He coaches soccer, and he is the assistant wrestling coach. He also used to coach baseball. If he had the opportunity, he would coach full time. He has been a coach for 12 years already. His favorite sport to coach is wrestling, but his second would have to be soccer.

Buford Cabrera by Kristin

Buford has been at the same Red Bank stand for 15 years.
“I’ve only missed four or five days out of my 15 year. My son got married one of those and I was sick the other days.” He quickly became a fixture in Red Bank and has built up a group of regulars who visit him weekly. He doesn't know many of them by name, but he recognizes their automobiles and faces instantly and he loves interacting with pets that are with their owners in the car. His all-time sales record was 200 papers in one day and 46 papers in a single hour.
Cabrera began selling newspapers in 1999, he saw an advertisement for the job and decided that he needed some additional income to supplement his part-time career as the dairy manager at Bi-Lo."I never sold papers when I was was young. I waited until I retired to become a newspaper man," Cabrera said.

DC Vs. Marvel by Robyn

image.jpg

Marvel and DC are both companies that make comic books and now they are being made into movies. Some examples would be The Amazing Spider Man from Marvel and Man Of Steel from DC. One thing that makes it such a debate is that people usually only like one or the other but not both. A well trusted source once told me “It’s a choice we all must make.” This article is to help you decide which side you want to join. Just remember as Voltaire once said,  "With great power comes great responsibility". So choose wisely and whatever you decide remember that not every one will agree with you.

Let’s start with DC Comics. DC stands for Detective Comics which featured Batman’s debut. First off let’s name some of DC's superheroes: Superman, Batman, Raven, Wonder Woman, Aqua Man, Nightwing, and so on. Now they couldn't be heroes without villains so here's a few examples: Joker, Poison Ivy ,Harley Quinn , Riddler, and so on. One pro of DC is that their cities are fictional so they can make the cities really unique. They can do whatever they want with the city. Another pro is their superheroes like Batman and Superman are well known. The first con is they rebooted a couple of times and changed stuff around. The second con is they are repetitive with the use of characters from the Batman family.

Now it's time to talk about Marvel Comics. First let's name some Marvel superheroes: Spider-man, Black Widow, Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, Wolverine, Captain America, and so on. Some of those villains who make superheroes' lives just a little harder include Red Scull, Magneto, Loki, Sandman, and Venom.  The first con for Marvel is that a lot of their stories take place in the real city of New York so they don't have as much creative freedom with the stories. The next con of Marvel is they don't have that many sidekicks. A pro of Marvel is their characters are more complex yet easier to relate to. The last pro is that most people know more about Marvel than DC. I hope this helps you with your decision. These are just some peoples' opinions, so you should read some Marvel or DC comics and form your own opinion on why one is better than the other.
